Internship - Sweat Dynamics & Wearable Platform Development

About us

We are developing Wear & Forget® wearables for continuous sweat biochemistry monitoring, combining on-demand sweat extraction with aptamer-based biosensing. Based at the Lausanne Biopôle, we are a <20 FTE small, multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers driven by a shared passion for impact. We thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where creativity, scientific excellence, and rapid iteration are at the core of everything we do.

‍

The role

We are looking for an intern/Master’s thesis student, available for 3 - 6 months. In this internship, you'll first validate the current sweat volume estimation model by comparing it against computer vision techniques on the bench. Based on those findings, the second phase is to extend the existing device into a broader platform: greater capacity, a form factor built for everyday wear, and room for a few extra sensors: so we can start building a real dataset of how sweat behaves outside the lab, not just inside it.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an image-processing pipeline to automatically track the fluid front and derive volume/rate over time, replacing manual marking
  • Correlate the optical measurement against our existing sweat sensor to build a joint calibration model
  • Adapt the form factor of the device's subsystems to support repeated iontophoresis sessions
  • Design and manufacture the sensor-rich PCB + corresponding mechanical platform
  • Run a small on-body pilot with repeated iontophoresis sessions to validate the platform under realistic, non-bench conditions
  • Curate a dataset and perform data analysis to capture correlations between sweat dynamics and ambient factors

‍

About you

  • Pursuing a Master's degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field
  • Comfortable with Python and image processing/computer vision
  • Embedded systems and firmware experience (e.g. Zephyr RTOS, Nordic nRF-series)
  • PCB design experience
  • Genuine interest in wearable medical devices and hands-on hardware/software/mechanical integration work
  • Mechanical/CAD design experience is a plus.

‍

What we offer

  • Monthly salary throughout the internship/project
  • Possibility of full-time return offer
  • Direct mentorship from the engineering team building the underlying patch and sensor hardware
  • Hands-on experience on biomedical device design in a small, fast-moving team
