Internship - PCB Test & Validation Engineering Intern

About us

We are developing Wear & Forget® wearables for continuous sweat biochemistry monitoring, combining on-demand sweat extraction with aptamer-based biosensing. Based at the Lausanne Biopôle, we are a <20 FTE small, multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers driven by a shared passion for impact. We thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where creativity, scientific excellence, and rapid iteration are at the core of everything we do.

‍

The role

We are looking for an intern (duration 3-4 months) to take the ownership of executing and improving our PCB test procedure: covering power management, power electronics, electrochemical sensing, BLE, and battery performance, while also helping redesign parts of the board and test fixtures to make repeated bench testing faster and less error-prone.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the full PCB validation test suite across key circuit categories: power electronics, battery management ICs, analog sensing/front-end circuitry, and wireless/microcontroller subsystems
  • Propose and implement PCB design changes to support repeatable bench testing (e.g. breakout boards, test points, interfaces for probes/SMU)
  • Build automation for test sequences and data logging (instrument control, scripted sweeps, result plotting) to replace manual bench steps
  • Run battery testing and characterization: capacity/discharge curves, fuel gauge accuracy, safety limits
  • Optional (time permitting): research applicable regulatory standards (IEC 60601-1, IEC 62304, ISO 14971) and propose hardware-level safety enhancements to the current circuit

‍

About you

  • Pursuing a Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Microengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
  • Comfortable with lab equipment: oscilloscope, SMU, DMM, power profilers, etc.
  • PCB design experience (KiCad or similar); scripting skills (Python) a strong plus
  • Curious about medtech hardware and eager to get hands-on with a real product

‍

What we offer

  • Monthly salary throughout the internship/project
  • Possibility of full-time return offer
  • Direct mentorship from the engineering team building the underlying patch and sensor hardware
  • Hands-on experience on biomedical device design in a small, fast-moving team
